MEDITATION, LAOS

In 2005 I traveled to Southeast Asia with a group from the Art Institute of Chicago to learn about Buddhist practice and globalization. This film represents the complexity of that process and its impact on me as a tourist.

These videos were installed at the G2 gallery in Chicago for three weeks with headphones and projection. Pictures of tourists posing for pictures was juxtaposed with a monk who teaches the viewers a two minute meditation practice.

A monk teaches me how to do a sitting awareness mediatation. This is what was playing opposite cusions on the floor of the gallery.
