POCOMO - Projected Augmented Collaborative Interaction

PoCoMo is an implementation of a vision in future projected social inerfaces. In this project we tried to capture the playfulness of collaborative gaming and apply it to projected interfaces. The development of handheld micro-projectors, in conjunction with advanced development environments and a special device case, enable this novel type of interaction. The characters play out a personal interaction, following their human controllers, by recognizing each other, waving hello, shaking hands, and exchanging presents. By Roy Shilkrot and Seth Hunter in the Fluid Interfaces group.

We published a paper in Mobile HCI 6 months before CMU pubished work from Disney Research called SideBySide which got a best paper award at UIST. These projects and ideas like Twinkle at SIGRAPH demonstrate potential for new social interactions as mobile projection technologies advance.
